Bella is the star of A Busy Bee: The Story of Bella the Honey Bee, SHARP’s We Love to Learn book for first graders. Her lively, read-aloud story introduces students to critical life lessons, including the importance of teamwork, respect for others, and never giving up. Science-based text supporting the story in both English and Spanish engages students of all ages in exploring pollination.
When the Florentine Opera approached us about a collaboration, we were thrilled to see the story come to life in such a vibrant and exciting way. The Florentine Opera’s world-premiere children’s opera, A Busy Bee, tells the tale of Bella the honey bee, as she searches to find her purpose and her role in the hive.
Using visual, aural and action methods, A Busy Bee exposed students to opera in a multi-disciplinary format. Additionally, students received the developmental benefits of arts education, such as expanded abstract thinking and problem-solving abilities, increased interest in self-expression, and a venue to enhance self-discipline, communication skills, perseverance and leadership.
Performed in schools throughout the area and public venues like Betty Brinn Children’s Museum and the Woman’s Club of Wisconsin, the performances charmed and delighted adults and children alike.
