Carroll University Partners with SHARP Literacy

Carroll University and the men’s basketball team have partnered with SHARP Literacy on a reading program which will provide elementary students participating in the SHARP program in Waukesha-area schools the opportunity to read with Carroll University Pioneers basketball players. As part of the program, members of the basketball team will spend time reading with students in the classroom and discussing the importance of reading, as well as answering student questions. The partnership reading program will continue throughout the 2017/2018 school year at the following schools: Banting Elementary School, Summit View Elementary School, Whittier Elementary School, La Casa de Esperanza and St. Jerome Parish School.

The program kicked off at Whittier Elementary School on October 18. Lynda Kohler, President/CEO of SHARP Literacy, welcomed the group. Pioneers Coach Paul Combs led the K5 – 5th grade students in a pep rally followed by reading time with players, coaches, Mascot Pio Pete, and students. Following the kick-off, students received backpacks donated by Carroll University.
