Totem Poles Unveiled at Neighborhood House Garden Park

Neighborhood House of Milwaukee has partnered with SHARP Literacy to create a collection of mosaic totem poles which will permanently adorn the Neighborhood House Garden Park. The project was led by artist Sally Duback and included participation from students enrolled in Neighborhood House’s ten-week summer camp offered to children ages 5 to 12. The unveiling event took place on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm, at the Neighborhood House Garden Park (2713 W. Richardson Place).
The totem pole art was inspired by the 2017 summer camp theme, “Nature of Culture.” This programming was aimed at reaching low-income, underserved Milwaukee youth to engage them in cultural exploration. Through the use of field trips, workshops, and performances, students were introduced to the traditional practices of different cultures.
